They are composed forming a refractory porcelain with the elements – zirconium and aluminum oxide. Used for calcination and melting of solid or pasty materials, usually in mummies, at temperatures between 1,200 and 1,500 ° C. No prior cooling of the muffle is required and can be placed directly at room temperature, without risk of damage from thermal shock. A residence time of 20 to 30 minutes is recommended for a perfect calcination, which may be longer when used at lower temperatures. When using fluxes such as borax and hydrofluoric acid, their use is only once, given the borax attack on porcelain. Other fluxes do not even attack porcelain with the same intensity.
